Excellent scholarship opportunity for enthusiastic female role models ages 16-21 within Buchanan County.

Want to be Royalty?

We are looking for charismatic, enthusiastic, and influential female role models, ages 16-21, on or by August 8, 2025.

  • Must be a member of Buchanan County, either by school, home address, or 4H/FFA group
  • Must be a role model who represents the values of Buchanan County and leaves a positive impact on those around
  • Must be available to participate in multiple activities at the Buchanan County Fair, July 14-21, 2025

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, photo, and a short bio for social media use to Amber Decker, Buchanan County Fair Queen Coordinator.

Cover letter and resume must be received by June 29, 2025.

  • Cover letter about who you are and why you want to become the Buchanan County Fair Queen
  • Resume detailing involvement in Buchanan County, including school, extra-curricular activities, church, volunteer experiences, etc.
  • Photo and short bio to be used on social media

Judging will occur on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Farmers State Bank in Jesup, IA, at 4:30 p.m.

  • Arrive in business professional attire and bring a formal dress
  • Formal sit-down meal
  • Service opportunity
  • 10-minute individual interview, 30-minute group interview
  • Professional photography
  • Get to know other girls from around the county and enjoy a fun afternoon

Queen Coronation will occur at the Buchanan County Fair on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

  • Queen will receive a $500 scholarship
  • Queen will be asked to be present during the whole week of the fair
  • Queen will represent Buchanan County at the Iowa State Fair Queen Competition
  • 1st runner-up will receive a $250 scholarship

The Buchanan County Fair Queen will be required to attend the following additional activities: 

  • 4th of July Independence Day Parade
  • Pie baking for the pie auction at the fair
  • Little Princess social meet and greet
  • Iowa State Fair Queen meet and greet
